Alcoholic Beverages and DrugsThe following policies and restrictions are established in recognition of state law and out of concern for the welfare of all persons who must function in a community or group living/learning environment:
BankingStudents may open individual checking accounts at local banks. Foster Bank, located at 5225 North Kedzie, is within walking distance. Bank One, with locations at 1825 West Lawrence and 4145 West Peterson, offers students direct deposit when they are employed by North Park and requires no minimum deposit or minimum balance. Computer ServicesNorth Park’s computer lab is equipped to serve students who do not have personal computers. Lab assistants are on duty to give students computer instruction. Food ServiceThe University Food Service is located in Magnuson Campus Center and is available to all students, faculty, staff, and their guests. Students living in campus residence halls (not including campus apartments) are required to use this food service on either a 10-, 15-, or 20-meal-per-week basis. Resident students pay a flat rate per term while others may pay for each meal in cash. Resident students receive an ID card that must be presented at each meal and is not transferable. The dining hall opens at the beginning of orientation week in the fall and closes during the Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks. No refunds are made for temporary absence during a term; however, refunds based on the unused portion are given for those students who drop out, are dismissed during a term, or withdraw due to illness. Health ServicesThe University operates a Health Service for the use of the students. This service is included in the tuition fee. However, consultations in a physician’s private office or consultations not held during regularly scheduled Health Service hours are charged to the student. HousingStudents living in campus housing are required to sign a University housing contract. They are expected to be familiar with the contents and the expectations outlined in the Student Handbook, and are reminded that the contract is a personal commitment to abide by its terms and conditions. Off-Campus ResidenceNorth Park believes that the benefits and values of a college education are significantly enhanced by the relational experiences of on-campus living. Therefore, all first -, second -, and third - year students are required to live in campus housing. Exceptions to this policy apply to students living with their parent(s), those registered for fewer than 10 credit hours, and those 22 years of age prior to September 1 of the academic year. Fourth-year students will lose up to $2,000 of institutional financial aid if they live off campus. Overnight GuestsOvernight guests of the same gender may stay in student rooms for up to three days in a given week. The resident director and resident assistant should be introduced to all overnight guests. Guests are expected to observe the same regulations as students. ParkingDue to limited campus parking, no first-year residential students are allowed to bring a car to campus. However, due to job and off-campus commitments, a car is sometimes necessary. Any student who wishes to drive a motor vehicle (including motorbikes) to school must petition the dean of student development to receive permission. Upon permission the student must register the vehicle with Physical Plant and purchase a parking sticker. Students must abide by the parking regulations and park in indicated lots.
