Carol Norén came to North Park in 1993 after serving on the
faculty of Duke Divinity School since 1986. She received her bachelor
of arts in religion and Scandinavian studies from Augustana College
in 1973. Her master of divinity is from Garrett-Evangelical Theological
Seminary and her doctorate in preaching from Princeton Theological Seminary
in 1986. Norén pursued additional studies at Uppsala University
in 1990. She was ordained deacon in 1974 and elder in 1979 by the
United
Methodist Church and has served as pastor and hospital chaplain in
Manchester, England (1975-76) and associate pastor of Salem United
Methodist Church
in Barrington, Ill., from 1977-1981. Norén is author of The
Woman in the Pulpit (Abingdon, 1991), What Happens Sunday
Morning: A Lay Person's
Guide to Worship (Westminster/John Knox Press, 1992), and The
Minister's Manual for Times of Crisis and Sorrow (Jossey-Bass, 2001). She serves
as contributing editor of The Minister's Manual and is currently working
on a book on independent women preachers. Norén serves as director
of the doctor of ministry program in preaching. She is active in
the
Swedish-American historical society and enjoys travel.
