Bob Hubbard completed his bachelor of arts at Wheaton College in 1965
and his bachelor of divinity at Fuller Theological Seminary in 1969.
He completed his master of arts and doctorate at Claremont Graduate
School. His dissertation was "Dynamistic and Legal Language in
Complaint Psalms." Hubbard is ordained by the Evangelical Free
Church of America. He served as a chaplain on active duty in the United
States Navy for four years and served as a chaplain in the United States
Naval Reserve from 1974 to 2000. Hubbard is author of The Book
of Ruth: New International Commentary on the Old Testament (Eerdmans, 1988),
which received the Christianity Today Critics Choice Award as the best
commentary of 1989. He co-authored Introduction to Biblical Interpretation (Word, 1993), with William Klein and Craig Blomberg, and is currently
writing commentaries on Esther and Lamentations for the New International
Commentary on the Old Testament, a series on which Hubbard serves as
general editor. He is also working on a commentary on Joshua. Hubbard
joined the faculty at North Park in 1995 after teaching at Denver Seminary
from 1976-1995. Fluent in Spanish, he is a liaison to the Hispanic Summer
Program, of which North Park is a member. He and his wife Pam are members
of Grace Covenant Church.
