Kelly Potteiger

Associate Professor of Athletic Training
Clinical Coordinator of Athletic Training Education

Classes taught: Therapeutic Exercise, Therapeutic Modalities, Nutrition, Personal Health, Practicum V, and Practicum VI

At North Park since: 2007

Dr. Kelly Potteiger was originally drawn to North Park because the University has the only Athletic Training Educational Program in the city of Chicago. “However,” she says, “I’ve chosen North Park because of the opportunities it offers.”

The combination of personal relationships and the urban location is what makes North Park home for Kelly. “The small campus environment and the freedom to offer the types of co-curricular programming necessary in the ever-changing world of health care” are important to her, “as well as the opportunity to get to know my students and student-athletes on a personal level, all while taking advantage of all the resources Chicago has to offer.”

As clinical coordinator, Kelly recruits and maintains the many clinical sites for student placement across the Chicagoland area, including professional sports teams, intercollegiate athletic departments, secondary schools, and health care providers.

In the classroom, Kelly looks for new resources to give her students hands-on experiences. “I strive to incorporate technology with the latest evidence and trends in health care into my courses when possible,” she says. “For example, I added a class session utilizing the Nintendo Wii as an adjunct to traditional physical rehabilitation.”
