Alumni Profile: Nick Jefferson

Nick Jefferson

As housing coordinator at the Albany Park Neighborhood Council (APNC), Nick Jefferson C’2012 advises renters who face eviction because they live in foreclosed buildings. He also works with a citywide coalition to change local housing policies to give renters more rights. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina and a yearlong study abroad experience in Austria, Nick wanted to work in community development and experience new cultures. His internship at APNC, a requirement in the conflict transformation program, helped him do just that and turned into a job after graduation. “The conflict transformation program offers a lot of flexibility and allows students to dip their toes into different issues and organizations,” he said.
