Students work with the elderly and disabled in our community. This is done by building relationships, helping with computer needs, and organizing various creative activities.
Friedman's Place
Friedman's Place is a home for the blind which provides living assistance for visually impaired individuals including a nursing staff, individual rooms, and activities. FP was formerly Kagan Home for the Blind, located on Foster, just west of North Park’s campus. Residents are typically older adults of Jewish background.
Volunteer opportunities include reading, doing crossword puzzles, sharing musical talents, and any other activity which interests the volunteer and can be easily shared. For just an hour a week you can impact someone’s life in amazing ways. To see a resident smile and laugh despite their disability is a rewarding experience.
No training is required.
FP is now located on the corner of Lincoln and Maplewood, a mile and a half from the school. To get there, volunteers can walk, take the bus, or it can be arranged for them to get a ride at specific times.
