Young Life
Background: Young Life is an international, non-denominational Christian outreach program for junior high and high school students. It has been in action for more than six decades. Jim Rayburn, the founder of Young Life, had a mission to reach kids with the gospel; these kids may have never stepped foot in a church, or heard anything about God or Jesus before. Today his formula for reaching young people still is active. We earn the right to be heard by getting at their level; then we share the gospel with them.
Focus: Mission Statement: Young Life is a mission community of Christ-centered people committed to reaching adolescent youth with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We do this by building personal relationships with young people, by sharing our lives and by participating with them in a variety of experiences through which the gospel can be heard and understood.
Young life accomplishes their mission statement by:
*doing “contact work”, and meeting kids where they are
*Praying for kids
*Building personal relationships with them.
*Winning the right to be heard.
*Providing experiences that are fun, adventurous and life-changing
*Loving them
*Challenging them to go beyond their comforts
*Sharing the gospel, and inviting them to respond to the Good News.
This is all done at a meeting called “club”. Young Life club consists of songs, mixers, high-energy games, crazy skits and walk-ons, fellowship, food, and a brief message.
Additional Information: There is also a Monday after school club at Lane Tech High school which is at 2:45- 3:45. Young Life also provides wonderful weekend getaways, summer and winter camps for kids to attend.
