Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences

Dean Gregor ThuswaldnerWelcome to the College of Arts and Sciences at North Park University. As Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, I am inspired by the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere at North Park, which promotes academic inquiry and embraces diversity in all its manifestations.

Students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences have options of 22 distinct majors and minors, including biochemistry, English, communication studies, biology, theatre, psychology, environmental science, and global studies, to name but a few. Our professors are gifted teacher-scholars who are personally invested in our students’ success. At North Park, students have access to a classic liberal arts education at its best—where there’s opportunity for interdisciplinary studies to come together offering such complementary but distinct disciplines as art and anatomy, science and theology, and mathematics and philosophy. The state-of-the-art Nancy and Timothy Johnson Center for Science and Community Life is home to a wide variety of research projects as students prepare for off-campus, hands-on experiential learning projects through our Chicago as a Classroom practicum.

At the heart of the College of Arts and Sciences is our liberal arts general education curriculum, which equips students with important skills readily transferrable in the workforce. The professors at North Park are dedicated to an intentionally Christian, uniquely city-centered, and truly intercultural liberal arts curriculum. As statistics show, employees in today’s economy change jobs at least four times before they reach their mid-thirties. The liberal arts education at North Park University enables students to stay competitive and to be able to adapt to different work environments and expectations. Our students learn to think critically, contribute and share ideas, work collaboratively and independently, problem solve with resourcefulness, and write effectively.

Unique to North Park, we emphasize service learning, locally here in Chicago and abroad. Numerous students study abroad in exciting locations including Ecuador, Sweden, South Korea, and Russia. It is not surprising that many of our alumni have received prestigious and highly competitive scholarships through the Fulbright program to either conduct research or teach English abroad.

Come and experience for yourself how North Park’s College of Arts and Sciences can impact your educational experience and guide you in shaping a life of significance and service.
