Music ensembles are open to music majors and non-majors, and some groups require auditions. Any student interested in auditioning for an ensemble should sign up in Wilson Hall for auditions to be held during the first week of fall classes. Some audition requirements are listed below; for more information, please contact the listed director or coordinator, or the Music Department office at 773-244-5630. If you are interested in auditioning for the spring semester, please contact the ensemble director listed below.
Chamber Music Ensembles
Auditions for Chamber Music Ensemble placement are held in conjunction with University Orchestra auditions and are required for all instrumental music majors, as well as music scholarship students. Auditions take place each fall during the first week of the semester (usually Tuesday and Thursday). Please sign up for an audition time when you arrive to campus; the sign-up sheet will be posted in Wilson Hall outside Office #22.
- Brass, Percussion, Strings, and Woodwinds: Please see audition requirements for University Orchestra listed below.
- Pianists: Prepare two contrasting movements; sight reading may also be requested.
- Guitarists: Prepare two contrasting pieces; sight reading may also be requested.

There are no auditions for Concert Band. If you would like to join simply arrive to the first rehearsal on Tuesday at 3:35 pm during the first week of fall classes in Hamming Hall. Arrive with your instrument, if you have one. If you need an instrument, please contact Dr. Joe Lill at (773) 244-5634.
Gospel Choir and Gospel Choir Touring Ensemble
There are no auditions for the Gospel Choir, however, an audition is required for participation in the Gospel Choir Touring Ensemble. If you’d like to join either ensemble, simply arrive to the first rehearsal on Tuesday at 6:30 pm in Anderson Chapel during the first week of fall classes.
Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo

Auditions are required. To audition simply arrive to the first rehearsal on Monday at 3:35 pm during the first week of fall classes in Hamming Hall.
Sight-reading is a big component, as everyone will rehearse with the band, and students may be asked to improvise over a 12-bar F Blues. Improvisation is not mandatory for Jazz Ensemble, but it is for students interested in Jazz Combo placement.

University Choir, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Singers

All students intending to sing in University Choir, Women’s Chorale, or Chamber Singers, whether they are registered or not, must sign-up for and sing a choral audition.
Auditions will take place in Anderson Chapel on Monday, Aug. 27th (2:30-6pm) and Tuesday, Aug. 28th (1:30-6pm).
There is nothing to prepare but please come warmed up. Students will be asked to vocalize to demonstrate range, echo back a musical pattern, and sight-read. The sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board by the main floor elevator in Hanson Hall.
