Intercollegiate Athletics

The North Park University Vikings represent North Park in intercollegiate NCAA Division III competition. Whether playing at home or away, in the fall or spring, our student-athletes represent the University’s commitment to preparing students for lives of significance and service as they learn teamwork, dedication, and how to be a positive example for the campus, their communities, and other teams. Student-athletes at North Park are first and foremost students, and their coaches, trainers, and professors are all dedicated to helping them succeed on the field and in the classroom.

The North Park baseball team is coached by Luke Johnson. Competing in the spring seasons, the Vikings are a consistently strong team, and Coach Johnson led the team to a CCIW title in 2012.

Both the women and men’s Viking basketball programs bring strong teams to the court every winter, providing exciting action for spectators and garnering several CCIW Player-of-the-Week and post-season All-CCIW honors. The women are coached by Amanda Crockett; the men by Tom Slyder.

Cross Country

Led by Coach Steve Imig, the cross country teams (women’s and men’s) compete in the fall and have been on a consistent upward climb in competition for the past few seasons. For the past two years, the women’s team has also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

Coach Michael Conway joined the Vikings staff in 2013, leading the team to break an 89-game CCIW losing streak in his fourth game. Coach Conway continues to build the program with strong recruits and exciting games at Holmgren Athletic Complex.

A strong tradition of excellence surrounds the Vikings soccer teams—men and women—who compete at a consistently high level across the CCIW and in post-season play. Men’s Head Coach John Born is in his 16th year; Women’s Head Coach Chris Wright is in his fourth year with the team, second as head coach.

The Viking Softball team now is helmed by Coach Katie Anderson, herself a grad of the program, following the 18-year career of Coach Dan Gooris. The Vikings compete in the spring across the region and conference.

Women’s tennis returned to North Park in Fall 2014 under Coach Karl Clifton-Soderstrom with a strong opening season. They also play in the spring, competing across Illinois and Wisconsin.

Track and Field

Coached by Geoff Masanet, the men and women’s track and field teams compete in both indoor and outdoor competition in the winter and spring seasons. Our Vikings make a strong showing in all events, with 11 new school records set during the 2015 season.

The Viking volleyball squad brings an immense amount of power and heart to the floor at every match. They are led by first-year head coach Natalie Dietz, who was a four-year starter on the Michigan State volleyball team and competed professionally in Europe.
