Seminary Regional Course Offerings

Through our innovative regional programs, you can now take classes where you live, work, and worship in Santa Barbara or Seattle.

Courses are taught in an “intensive hybrid” model: you’ll do some coursework through an online system prior to a three-to-five day intensive course gathering, and then complete papers or projects online following the in-person segment. You can expect the following:

  • Pre-class: Reading, papers, exams, and ministry-related discussion with your professor and peers
  • Classroom instruction: Three to five full days of intensive lectures and interaction
  • Post-class: Papers, exams, and ministry-related projects to solidify what you’ve been learning

This model allows you to get the benefits of face-to-face interaction with your professor and classmates and the flexibility of scheduling offered by online courses. We also teach intensive hybrid courses on our Chicago campus in January and summer terms, but these regional offerings may lower the cost of travel and lodging for students in the western United States to complete courses for a certificate or master’s degree.

Foundational Courses Certificate

You can complete a North Park Theological Seminary Foundational Courses Certificate entirely through regional course offerings. This four-course certificate is designed for individuals who are starting Seminary studies or who are involved in the credentialing process with the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). You will take courses in church history, theology, Old Testament, and New Testament. Learn more.

Master’s Degrees

All regional courses can be a head start on a master’s degree from North Park Theological Seminary.

In order to complete a degree, you can continue coursework through a combination of fully-online, intensive hybrid, and full-semester on-campus classes. Depending on the degree, you will only need to complete between 13 and 30 credit hours in Chicago to fulfill residency requirements.

ECC Credentialing

For those interested in pursuing credentialed ministry with the ECC, the four foundational courses fulfill part of the basic requirements for licensing and ordination. Note that these are not the same as those offered for Covenant Orientation. For more information about seeking a permanent credential with the ECC, please contact the Department of the Ordered Ministry.
