Julia Davids

Julia Davis
Stephen J. Hendrickson Assistant Professor of Music
Director of Choral Activities

At North Park since: 2010

Dr. Julia Davids brings her expertise in conducting, vocal performance, and music education. She directs the University Choir and Chamber Singers, and teaches courses for the music education degree. “I love this faith-based, supportive community,” she says. “Students and faculty work side by side to create all sorts of music.”

She points to the many avenues for learning that music provides for students, from discussions of faith to professional experience to exploring the world. “Music is so all-encompassing,” she says. “The variety of repertoire and perspectives in music allows for a great deal of learning about other cultures.”

As the director of choral activities, Dr. Davids works with all of the choirs to make sure they are performing regularly, giving students significant experience on campus and around Chicago. “Annually, the choirs are featured in the Fall Choral Concert, the Service of Lessons and Carols, the Hymn Festival, and national and international tours,” she says.

Dr. Davids is a soprano soloist and is an avid performer and recitalist specializing in early music. She’s a proud founding member of the Canadian Chamber Choir, Canada’s national choral ensemble providing a professional-level choral environment for Canadian singers, conductors, and composers. As artistic director of the group since 2004, she led the ensemble on concert and workshop tours of Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan and directed their debut recording, “In Good Company.” Dr. Davids is currently the music director of the North Shore Choral Society, a 140-voice community choir in Chicagoland. She also serves as director of music ministries at Trinity United Methodist Church in Wilmette, Ill. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, National Association of the Teachers of Singing, Association of Canadian Choral Communities, National Collegiate Choral Organization, and Chorus America.
