Profile
Dr. Eugenia Jeong is the director of piano studies at North Park University, where she focuses on cultivating her students’ listening skills, curiosity, and openness to musical exploration. Previously, she was the director of piano studies at the University of Chicago.
As a pianist, Jeong has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, the Chicago Cultural Center, Benaroya Hall, and The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, as well as in India, Israel, Italy, and South Korea. Her multimedia concert, “From Both Sides,” presented through UChicago Presents, explored music from North and South Korea and the Arab-Israeli regions, interwoven with themes from “Arabeske in C major, Op. 18″ by Robert Schumann.
Jeong earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance with departmental honors from Northwestern University, with a dissertation focused on innovative ways for conservatory-trained musicians to engage new audiences. Her mentors include James Giles, Elizabeth Buccheri, Willard Schultz, Golda Tatz, Alon Goldstein, and Nelita True, who have shaped her approach to teaching and performance. Active in Chicago’s music community, she has served on New Music Chicago’s board and recorded works by Florence Price with Grammy-nominated Michael Hawes. Jeong’s teaching centers on creating a space where students feel heard, valued, and inspired toward excellence and service.
