Sophia Magallanes-Tsang is an Assistant Professor of Old Testament at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago.
Dr. Magallanes-Tsang received her PhD in Divinity from University of Edinburgh and a Master’s of Arts in Theology: Biblical Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. She also earned her undergraduate degree and a master’s degree from Azusa Pacific University.
Dr. Magallanes-Tsang brings to North Park Theological Seminary seventeen years of experience teaching Old and New Testaments in both university and seminary settings, including teaching Spanish-and English-language courses at Fuller Theological Seminary. Her research focuses on Hebrew Wisdom Literature and Old Testament interpretation and Latino/a/e hermeneutics.
Sophia has a passion for reading the Bible communally within diverse communities and making biblical studies an accessible skill for everyone in the pew. Her current book projects are Comadres: Biblical Interpretation as Scriptural Accompaniment, Reading the Word Interculturally, and a commentary on the Book of Job with another Latina co-author Celeste Gonzalez-Moreno.
Sophia lives in Chicago with her husband and her dog Honey. She is the 6th out of seven daughters in a Mexican-American family. She loves to sing with her sisters when she is back visiting the in Los Angeles, California. She describes herself as a relational educator who uses multiple methods of teaching with a passion for equipping God’s people for life and ministry.
