General Studies in Music at North Park

Featured course
MUS 3010–Music History and Literature I
This survey of the history of western music from the Baroque period through the mid-Romantic period is designed to familiarize students with the genres, musical styles and important personalities of the eras. Through active listening and analysis, students will become familiar with the musical styles of the periods. Structured writing assignments will reflect professional scholarship in the field of music.

Ensembles
North Park offers a wide variety of curricular ensembles. Students can choose from the following.
- Concert band
- Chamber groups
- Gospel choir
- Jazz ensemble and combos
- Opera and musical theatre
- University orchestra
These ensembles perform on and off-campus, tour domestically and internationally, and participate in festivals and competitions. The opera and musical theatre program offers workshop/scenes, cabaret, and full-production courses. Ensembles are open to all students, regardless of major.
