First-Year Students

Who we are

Our academic programs and learning environment are informed by three institutional values.

Two people singing on stage, each holding a microphone. The person in the foreground is wearing a green sweater with colorful flowers. A piano and sheet music are visible in the background.

We are Christian.

Rooted in the values of the Evangelical Covenant Church, North Park University embraces its Christian heritage while welcoming students of all faiths. Respectful dialogue, spiritual growth, and community are central to campus life. University Ministries offers opportunities for worship, service, and faith development on campus and beyond, while the CRUX discipleship program invites students into a year of intentional Christian community.

A group of people in light blue shirts are participating in a river cleanup for North Park University's annual Service Day, standing on a riverbank surrounded by trees and foliage. They are holding trash bags and tools. A person paddles in a small yellow inflatable boat on the water nearby. Various cleaning supplies and life vests are on the ground.

We are city-centered.

Chicago is our classroom, offering North Park students endless opportunities to learn, grow, and serve in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. Located in the diverse Albany Park and North Park neighborhoods—where more than 40 languages are spoken—our campus is surrounded by rich cultures, local partnerships, and global perspectives. Students engage with the city through internships, neighborhood-based classes, and community involvement.

A group of graduates in black caps and gowns walk in a procession. One individual in focus wears a yellow tassel. Many flags, including the Chicago flag, are displayed in the background. Trees line the procession route.

We are intercultural.

North Park University’s mission reflects and celebrates a vibrant, intercultural student body—including our designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. We are proud to be a place where students from all backgrounds feel welcome, seen, and supported. The Office of Intercultural Student Affairs fosters an inclusive campus environment through cultural clubs, student advocacy, and programming that help students grow as leaders and pursue lives of significance and service.
