Student Records and Privacy
FERPA: your privacy rights
From your first day at North Park, your educational records are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This means your records cannot be shared—even with parents or family—without your written consent.
Examples of protected records include:
- Grades and transcripts
- Class schedule
- Billing info
- Financial aid
- Medical records
- Disciplinary actions
To share your records with someone (e.g., a parent), submit a FERPA Release Form with a designated 4-digit PIN. Return it by:
- Email: registrar@northpark.edu
- Fax: (773) 634-4051
- Mail: North Park University, 3225 W Foster Ave, Box 9, Chicago IL 60625
Release of information is not immediate—staff may schedule a follow-up to verify access.
Updating personal information
Keep your address and contact details current so you don’t miss important updates. Update your info by:
- Logging into Self-Service → User Profile
- Emailing a Change of Address form to registrar@northpark.edu
- Visiting the Registrar’s Office to fill out a form in person.
Legal name and chosen name changes
Legal name change
Submit a completed Change of Name form with official documentation (e.g., marriage certificate, ID) to the Registrar’s Office by email, mail, or in person.
Chosen name policy
North Park supports using a chosen name in university communications and systems. You can designate a chosen first, middle, and/or last name, except where legal names are required (e.g., transcripts, payroll, W-2s, official verifications).
Inappropriate or misleading use of a chosen name may result in a denied request.
Chosen names:
- Appear on ID cards (front)
- Do not change your legal name in official systems
- Can be updated or reverted at any time
Gender identity updates
Students, alumni, and employees may submit a Name and/or Gender Identity Change Form to update how their gender and pronouns are recorded. These updates appear in Self-Service only and not on official documents like diplomas or transcripts.
Requests may be denied if they involve misrepresentation or violate university policy or law.
Dependent status and permanent address
Undergraduate students (except SPS students) are considered dependent unless declared otherwise.
- Independent students must notify the University within 10 days of the term’s start.
- Dependent students must use a parent/guardian’s address as their permanent mailing address.
