As one of the concentrations in the art major at North Park, fine arts combines art history with learning different art forms, like drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and more. You can use these skills to pursue a career as a professional artist, teacher, curator, nonprofit worker, and more.

Featured course

ART 1030–Two Dimensional Design
Introduction and application of the elements of visual language. Studies in shape, color, line, texture, and value as they relate to two-dimensional art.

ART 2000–Creative Guild
This creative ensemble welcomes all students interested in art to register. This experience ushers students into the collaboration of art making and the organization of creative events. It fosters student interaction with and investment in Chicago’s rich artistic landscape. Activities include studio and institutional visits, service projects both on and off campus, guest speakers, performances, and discussions. Course is variable credit and repeatable. Experienced students will have the opportunity to direct projects and activities.

Dr. Nnenna Okore

Dr. Nnenna Okore’s abstract sculptures incorporate a variety of media and objects. Her focus on environmental art has taken her to her home country of Nigeria for a year as a Fulbright Scholar, teaching and creating art alongside local artists and students.

Junior critique

During your junior year, you will receive direct feedback on your work to date from faculty and peers, plus mentoring on how to focus your efforts going forward. Throughout your time at North Park, the faculty will take this type of vested interest in you and your goals.

Senior show

Senior art majors who concentrate in graphic design participate in the senior show during their final semester. You’ll create an artist’s statement and cohesive body of work. You will professionally display your work publicly in the Carlson Tower Art Gallery. This will become part of your portfolio in your job search.
