MUS 3010–Music History and Literature I
This survey of the history of western music from the Baroque period through the mid-Romantic period is designed to familiarize students with the genres, musical styles and important personalities of the eras. Through active listening and analysis, students will become familiar with the musical styles of the periods. Structured writing assignments will reflect professional scholarship in the field of music.
Certificates
Arts Management Certificate: Combine your passion for music with nonprofit coursework and an internship to prepare for a range of careers.
Music for Social Change and Human Values Certificate: Music majors can earn an innovative eight-semester-hour certificate, training to teach young students stringed instruments in an orchestral setting with El Sistema-inspired techniques.
Ensembles
From four choirs, an orchestra, a concert band to a jazz ensemble, chamber groups, and an opera program, there’s an array of options. These ensembles perform on and off-campus, tour domestically and internationally, and participate in festivals and competitions. The opera program stages annual workshops and full productions or scenes. Ensembles are open to both music majors and non-music majors, and most require auditions.
