Pre-Art Therapy

Pre-Professional Track

Pre-Art Therapy at North Park

The pre-art therapy track prepares you for admission to competitive graduate programs in art therapy. This track pairs with a major—typically art or psychology—allowing you to develop a deeper understanding of the mind and the healing power of creative expression.

Pre-professional tracks help you build a strong foundation for graduate school or professional programs. These tracks aren’t standalone majors, but a curated set of courses designed to complement your chosen field of study. Pre-art therapy students receive guidance from art and psychology faculty. Your advisors will help you explore your interests in art therapy, stay on track academically, and prepare for graduate school applications and interviews.

Featured course

PSYC 1000–Introduction to Psychology

An introduction to the methodology and the major content areas of psychology.

Advising

Pre-art therapy students are advised by faculty, often Kelly VanderBrug, professor of art, as well as psychology professor Kezia Shirkey. They’ll work with you about your particular interests in art therapy, help you stay on track throughout your program at North Park, and make sure you are prepared for your applications and interviews for art therapy school.

You will be known, and we will journey with you as you find direction in your artistic life and your life lived artfully.
—Kelly VanderBrug, Professor of Art
