Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps

The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is a leadership program that prepares college students to become officers in the US Air Force and US Space Force. Through hands-on training, coursework, and physical fitness, cadets build the skills needed to lead and commission after graduation.

At North Park University, AFROTC is offered through Detachment 195 at the University of Chicago. Learn more and take your first step toward a future in service and leadership.

ROTC and Financial Aid at North Park

If you enroll at North Park with the intention to participate in ROTC but have not yet been awarded a National ROTC scholarship, you will receive a traditional incoming student financial aid package. Based on your interest, North Park’s Veteran and ROTC Coordinator will guide you through the application process for an ROTC scholarship.

If you later become eligible for an Army ROTC scholarship, your financial aid package will be adjusted. This scholarship will cover your tuition and fees, and if you are living on campus, North Park will provide an institutional Army ROTC housing grant to cover your living costs (up to the cost of a regular double room and a fifteen-meal plan). This grant replaces any previous institutional financial aid and is calculated after federal and state grants have been applied.

As part of your financial aid package, you will need to read and sign the ROTC Contract of Understanding.

FAQ

Yes, all ROTC students or those interested in ROTC must file a FAFSA.

If you haven’t received a ROTC scholarship yet, you will receive the same financial aid package based on your Expected Family Contribution and academic record as any other student.

In your second semester, your financial aid will be adjusted. With a full ROTC scholarship, your tuition and fees will be covered by the Army, and if you live on campus, the North Park institutional Army ROTC housing grant will cover your living expenses. Your first semester costs will be based on your initial financial aid package.

If you stop participating in ROTC, your financial aid package will revert back to the original package you received when you enrolled at North Park, as long as you meet the university’s academic progress standards.
