Auditions and Interview

Auditions and interviews are held in-person each spring; however, prospective international students currently outside of the United States are welcome to submit audition footage electronically via YouTube or other online video services.

Vocal Performance Audition Requirements

Select five pieces covering a variety of styles, technical characteristics, and languages.  Include at least one art song, one operatic aria, one English selection, and one piece composed after 1900.

A resume is required as part of the audition process as well as an audition repertoire list (Copies of the music are not necessary).  If you are auditioning in-person, an accompanist will be provided.

Collaborative Piano Audition Requirements

Prepare the following six art songs (each in the high key), aria, and one solo piano work of your choice, memorization optional, which demonstrates technique and musicianship.

  • “Il pleure dans mon coeur” by Claude Debussy
  • “St. Ita’s Vision” by Samuel Barber
  • “Nichts” by Richard Strauss
  • “Meine Liebe ist grün” by Johannes Brahms
  • “Mi chiamano Mimi” from La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini
  • “Mandoline” by Claude Debussy
  • “Morgen” by Richard Strauss (measures 1 through the downbeat of measure 16)

The faculty will select two to three of the required six art songs to be performed with a singer as well as the aria, unrehearsed.

Academic recommendations are letters written and submitted by a current or former teacher attesting to your academic abilities within the classroom.  Please use the online application to submit request a recommendation.  All you need to do is submit the email address of a recommender of your choice and North Park will send them an inquiry on your behalf.
