Student Exhibition: Elise Wentzel (C’ 26) | Fine Art & Biology concentration
Date: 04/20/2026–04/24/2026 | Location: Carlson Tower Gallery
Elise Wentzel is from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she grew up immersed in the surrounding nature. She is currently a senior at North Park University, majoring in Fine Arts and minoring in Biology. Elise is considering medical illustration, prosthetic design, and product design for her future steps after university. In the past few years, she’s been honored to participate in and receive awards for the 2025 Student Research Symposium and the 2025 and 2023 Provost Prize Scholarship Exhibitions.
She approaches her work in conversation with what emerges in the process of making. Her subconscious mind and internal thoughts guide her painting in an intuitive process. The methodical act of making work often provides space to address anxieties, existentialism, and perception of surroundings through personal consciousness. Nature and the female form appear with regularity, but by placing them in imaginative worlds, they take on strange new narratives. The result of these works prioritizes representational accuracy, attention to lighting, details, and anatomy as a means to convince the viewer of the physicality of these worlds and transport them.
The Carlson Tower Galleries are free and open to the public Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Reception and Artist Talk: April 21, 4:30 p.m. in Carlson Tower Galleries
