Become a change maker in your community. As a public policy major, you’ll become equipped to participate in a policymaking institution, and to understand, evaluate, and propose public policy. This interdisciplinary major blends social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences to educate you on policymaking.

POGO 1600 American Government
An introductory survey of the principles which have shaped the American Republic. The political institutions and processes central to an understanding of American politics and government will be examined including the Constitution, presidency, Congress, Supreme Court, political parties, campaigns, elections, and selected public policy issues.

Career outcomes and internships

Public policy graduates pursue diverse paths, including:

  • Civil service at federal, state, or local levels.
  • Private sector roles in nonprofits or government-affiliated organizations.
  • Advanced degrees in public administration, policy, or law.

Internships are strongly encouraged, and North Park University has partnerships with many organizations, including:

  • State of Illinois’ Office of the Governor
  • State of Illinois’ Treasurer’s Office
  • City of Chicago’s Office of the Mayor and Department of Housing
  • D.C.-based interest groups, including World Vision and the International Justice Mission
Wherever you want to make a difference, you’re going to run into a government. Even if you want to change something through a community organization, you can’t do it without dealing with the government, so learn how the system works.
