Student handbook
North Park University is committed to providing an environment where students feel supported and respected. As a community we respect differences, encourage open dialogue, and commit to caring for all members of the community.
North Park students have both rights and responsibilities. We take seriously the assurance of these rights for every member of the community. Likewise, we expect each community member to fulfill his or her responsibilities. These policies are designed to support and maintain a scholarly community that values diversity and an inclusive educational environment.
Students will be held accountable to the following University community standards:
- I will practice personal and academic integrity.
- I will demonstrate concern for myself and others that encourages growth, learning, and development.
- I will respect the rights, property, and dignity of all persons.
The Traditional Undergraduate Student Handbook provides complete information on how these community standards are upheld, the student conduct process for violations, and students’ rights and responsibilities.
The University is committed to providing and maintaining a welcoming environment, and will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or any form of intimidation by any person in any form directed against students, faculty, or staff of the institution, either in-person or online. Please familiarize yourself with our Equal Opportunity, Title IX, and social media policies.
It is our hope and prayer that you find North Park University to be a place that challenges you to extend your intellectual boundaries while at the same time supporting you in your development.
Graduate and Adult Studies students should contact their individual programs for information regarding the applicable Student Handbook.

Statement on Student Conduct
The Student Handbook and Standards of Conduct are rooted in the philosophy of restorative justice. Restorative justice is a practical, biblical approach to the difficulties and joys, struggles and strengths, and problems and advantages of a community. It is rooted in the concepts of maintaining, restoring, and promoting peace, commonly referred to as “Shalom” in the Bible. It is a call for wholeness and unity for relationships within a community as well as one’s relationship with God.
- Restitution: An example of this is the story of Zacchaeus in Luke
- Accountability: There are examples of accountability in both the Old and New Testament (Ezekiel 3:16-19 and Romans 3:9-20).
- Forgiveness: Jesus’s death and resurrection are the ultimate example; however, other examples include Matthew 18:21-35 and Genesis 50:15-21.
The purpose of the Student Standards of Conduct process is to help North Park University students understand and develop respectful and responsible behavior in the context of the relationship to others, the campus, and surrounding community. North Park University is committed to preparing students for lives of significance and service through the following:
- Understanding community responsibilities by fostering empathy for others, their feelings, and their need for conditions that support their learning and development.
- Enhancing self-awareness by developing the integrity and character of
- Making intentional major life decisions that are conducive to growth development, life-long learning, and spiritual awareness.
- Obtaining fundamental skills to serve as a student, friend, and
- Encouraging and enforcing the personal and property rights of
- Embracing diversity by preserving respect for and dignity of all
North Park University intends to hold students accountable for the University Policies and Community Standards, not to take away any student’s rights.
This handbook applies to all students, and it includes policies that also apply to staff, faculty, contractors, guests, and visitors.
Students in Graduate Programs, Adult Programs, and Theological Seminary students are expected to uphold the policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and University Policies of North Park University as found in their respective Student Handbook. If the applicable handbook does not address a particular matter, this handbook shall apply.
North Park University has high expectations for people in the university community. Accordingly, the policies in this handbook are supplementary to the rules found in federal, state, and local laws, and may be more restrictive.
As part of the North Park University community, students represent the University at all times, whether on or off campus. It is the hope of the University that each member of the student community will serve as an ambassador of the University when away from the University campus, showing a regard for others that goes beyond the minimum requirements of the law. As such, the University may choose to address student misconduct that occurs
off-campus. A student may be charged with violating the Conduct Unbecoming policy, and/or other University policies in situations that include, but are not limited to:
- When the alleged off-campus misconduct occurs while a student is officially representing the University.
- When the alleged off-campus misconduct is criminal in nature.
- When the alleged off-campus misconduct causes a significant neighbor or community concern.
- When the alleged off-campus misconduct involves sexual violence, dating violence, or domestic violence and stalking.
The Student Handbook should be considered a supplement to the information found in the North Park University Catalog. Students are encouraged to regularly review the catalog, and to consult it for information on academic policies and procedures.
Interpretation and Revision
Any question of interpretation or application of the Student Standards of Conduct or University Policies shall be referred to the dean of students or their designee for final determination.
