Because the teacher certification/licensure (TC) program is designed individually by you in collaboration with an advisor in the School of Education, program requirements vary. These are dependent upon your chosen Illinois teacher certification/licensure, and you must meet are the same requirements as North Park’s undergraduate students for each area. Some of these requirements may have been met by your previous undergraduate coursework. Your advisor will help you devise a plan to meet your educational and career goals.
Please note: TC candidates are not required to complete the undergraduate Core Curriculum. You must only meet the program requirements for education courses and areas of concentration/major areas in order to meet requirements for Illinois state certification/licensure.
In order to qualify for Illinois teacher certification/licensure, you must also maintain a 2.5 overall GPA, 2.75 GPA in your major/concentration area, and 2.75 GPA in education coursework.
Secondary and K–12 education certification/licensure candidates must take a minimum of 24 semester hours at North Park University; early childhood and elementary education candidates must take a minimum of 28 semester hours at North Park.
All professional education and content-area coursework that forms part of an application for certification/licensure, endorsement, or approval must have been passed with a grade of no lower than “C” in order to be counted toward fulfillment of the applicable requirements.
