Born and raised in India, Dr. Ida Maduram‘s childhood showed her “the multicultural fabric of life.” The society Dr. Maduram grew up in “thrived with coexisting language, culture, dance, music, food, and faith,” she says. She now brings that passion to her education students at North Park. “I share this with my classes and teach them how rich our lives will be if we can embrace multiculturalism, and share that with our students.”

As coordinator of elementary and early childhood programs, Dr. Maduram helps her students to become teachers themselves. “Educators take many roles in the lives of their students,” she tells them, “and being faithful to God adds richness to the different facets of life.”

Dr. Maduram serves as the School of Education’s liaison to the Golden Apple Scholarship, a program that provides scholarships and extra training opportunities for future Illinois teachers who commit to serving students in high-need schools. She advises these scholarship recipients as they complete service projects and share them with their fellow students. Golden Apple scholars—and all North Park’s teachers-in-training—benefit from the School's intentional approach to clinical experiences, which “allow students to learn from the extended classroom of Chicago,” she says.

Dr. Maduram believes that the School of Education not only adheres to North Park’s mission and vision, but that “we have faculty and administration who care to give each student a rich educational experience.”
