David Koeller

As a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Professor David Koeller felt called to North Park University, where he has taught history for 20 years.

In his classes, students work one-on-one with a faculty member on independent study projects. He recalls one student, a double major in Spanish, had found original reports at the Newberry Library sent by Spanish missionaries back to Spain about their first encounters with the people of Mexico in the 1500s. The student used the primary documents to write a paper on the differences between Jesuit and Dominican missionaries and their attitudes toward the indigenous population of Mexico.

Koeller is also developing courses that will take students to the Chicago Board of Trade and the Adler Planetarium. He has taught an array of courses and weaves in issues of faith in different ways.
