Scott Burns is an instructor of applied jazz saxophone at North Park University. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (bachelor of music in Jazz Studies, Summa Cum Laude) and DePaul University (master of music in Jazz Studies, With Distinction).
His wide range of performing credits includes appearances with international jazz artists Ahmad Jamal, Clark Terry, McCoy Tyner, Tony Bennett, and Harry Connick, Jr. He has performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Symphony Center, Ravinia Festival, and the Kennedy Center, as well as many jazz clubs nationwide. His debut CD, “Passages,” was released on Origin Records to critical acclaim and features his original compositions.
Burns has also taught in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Institute’s Chicago chapter and summer high school jazz programs at Northwestern University. He is currently a faculty member of Birch Creek Music Performance Center’s summer jazz academy in Door County, Wisconsin. He has been a guest clinician at numerous high schools, colleges, and universities in the Midwest.
