Chemistry

In fall 2014, chemistry will move into the Nancy and G. Timothy Johnson Center for Science and Community Life, a 101,000-square-foot facility equipped with 30 state-of-the-art labs and technology-enhanced classrooms. Built to meet LEED-certification standards for environmental responsibility in construction and operation, the Johnson Center will be the hub of scientific life at North Park and a stunning addition to the campus community.

Chemistry happens in the lab, a place where first-person experience becomes lifelong knowledge. As a chemistry major, you will have a number of opportunities to conduct original chemistry research with our incredible faculty, through industry internships across Chicago and summer research opportunities like the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. The North Park chemistry department is proud to offer state-of-the-art lab instrumentation for hands-on chemical analysis of compounds made during laboratory and research experiments. In our labs, you will use miniature gas chromatographs and “smart lab” digital probes. Our sophisticated instrumentation lab has one of the world’s first miniature NMR spectrometers, and one of the few TXRF instruments available in the Chicago area. More
