Annie Picard

Dr. Annie Picard is a soloist, chamber musician, and voice professor. Passionate about helping students find their voices, Picard aims to help students develop not only as singers and musicians but also as individuals.

Picard has performed with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Theatre Saint Louis, DuPage Opera Theatre, and Illinois Opera Theatre and sung in concerts. She applies these experiences in the classroom and equips her students with the skills for proper vocal technique.

Many of her former students now sing in professional choruses, including the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Lyric Opera Chorus, and Grant Park Chorus. They have also been finalists and winners of the American Opera Society, James Toland Vocal Arts, and Charlotte Opera Guild, among others. Still others are using their vocal pedagogy skills to teach voice at Morton College, Winthrop University, and The Voice Lab.

Picard values North Park’s continuous support for creativity and life-long learning. Additionally, she embraces North Park’s location in Chicago, saying “Living in such a diverse urban environment educates our students so that they’re able to make informed choices for their beliefs, challenge their knowledge, and grow in understanding, grace, and compassion for others.”

Favorite Quote

“Art is the only thing you cannot punch a button for. You must do it the old-fashioned way. Stay up and really burn the midnight oil. There are no compromises.” — Leontyne Price

The only way to truly internalize anything is to work hard and often. Ms. Price’s voice is special + her work ethic is special = her quote is special!

Fun Fact

I collect vintage McCoy and California pottery. I love that each piece has a story, a unique shape, and beautiful color.

Interests and Hobbies

I have been a passionate practitioner and healer using MZI Information Rehabilitation Qi Gong methods since 2008. In 2017, I founded the Picard-Stanton Institute (PSI) with Sean Stanton to develop and teach MZI Qi Gong workshops for musicians. I am honored to be one of the first students of Master Zhao to receive his blessing to teach his methods outside of his institute. I use MZI techniques in my studio and class teaching, and in my life every day.

I’m also an avid gardener. Connecting with nature: digging in dirt, listening to birds sing, creating a beautiful space outdoors, and caring for the plants feeds my soul!
