Lior Shragg is an ethnomusicologist, percussionist, composer, and adjunct professor of music at North Park University. His recently published dissertation “Belonging: The Music and Lives of Black Zimbabwean Jews” examines the role music plays in performances of religious devotion and the construction of social identity of Lemba and Rusape Jewish communities in Zimbabwe. Shragg has presented research on this, as well as soundscapes in musical protest and karaoke at academic conferences throughout North America and is a featured contributor in the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Community Singing. He is a member of CFM Local 10-208 where he performs regularly in Chicago musical theatre productions.
