Ensemble Auditions

Music ensembles are open to music majors and non-majors, and some groups require auditions. Any student interested in auditioning for an ensemble should sign up in Hanson Hall for auditions to be held during the first week of classes. Some audition requirements are listed below; for more information, please contact the listed director or coordinator, or the School of Music office.

Chamber Music Ensembles

Claudia Lasareff-Mironoff, Director

  • See University Orchestra audition requirements below

Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo

Joe Lill, Director

Auditions are required and will take place during the group's first rehearsal of the year.

Sight-reading is a big component, as everyone will rehearse with the band, and students may be asked to improvise over a 12-bar F Blues. Improvisation is not mandatory for Jazz Ensemble, but it is for students interested in Jazz Combo placement.

Nyela Basney, Director

University Choir, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Singers

Julia Davids, Director

Auditions are required and will take place in Anderson Chapel during the first week of the academic year. Please sign up for an audition time (sign-up sheet in Hanson Hall, 1A).

Students must sing ‘My Country Tis of Thee’ (in any key, unaccompanied), vocalize to demonstrate range, echo back a musical pattern, and sight-read. Students interested in Chamber Choir should indicate that at their audition.

University Orchestra

Tom Zelle, Director

Auditions are required and are five to seven minutes in length. They will take place in Hanson Hall Room 23 during the first week of the school year. Sign-up sheets will be available in Wilson Hall.
