Certificate in Christian Studies

Complete a basic orientation in Christian thought, spirituality, and practice at the graduate level with a certificate in Christian studies. You’ll gain a theological foundation and a deeper understanding of Christian life and vocation in the tradition of the Evangelical Covenant Church, preparing you for a variety of potential ministry options.

If you are interested taking Seminary courses, but are unsure of which degree is right for you, or whether you’re ready to commit to a full master’s program, a certificate in Christian studies could be the right fit for you. You’ll have flexibility to choose courses that match your passions and goals, and continue your studies if you desire to do so. The courses in this eight-credit certificate apply to any full master’s degree at North Park Theological Seminary.

With options for both semester-long or intensive courses, offered in-person or online, the certificate in Christian Studies is an affordable, flexible option for you to learn from expert faculty and deepen your knowledge and faith practice.

Meet the Faculty: Hauna Ondrey

Hauna Ondrey
A graduate of North Park Theological Seminary now pursuing a PhD, Hauna has returned as a teaching fellow in church history, bringing her experience of teaching around the world in Colombia, Scotland, and South Korea.

  • BIBL 5150 Interpreting the New Testament I
  • BIBL 5151 Interpreting the New Testament II
  • BIBL 6120 Interpreting the Old Testament I
  • BIBL 6121 Interpreting the Old Testament II
  • HSTY 6210 Christian Tradition and Mission

You may be required to take HSTY 5200 Christian Heritage I or HSTY 5201 Christian Heritage II if you anticipate applying to the MATS or MDiv degree programs.

One of the following (3 credits)

  • MNST Elective CEDF Elective

You may take any three-credit hour course in the ministry or Christian education field that does not have a prerequisite.

One of the following (1 credit)

  • SPFM 5201 Spiritual Journey
  • SPFM 5202 Spiritual Practices
