Earn Your Master's in Christian Formation

Ministries of Christian formation create opportunities to invite the Holy Spirit into the lives of individuals and communities as a transformative presence. Earn your master of arts in Christian formation (MACF) to be better equipped to lead these ministries with a thorough foundation in the Bible, theology, and spiritual formation, as well as specialized coursework relevant to your context. Whether you are called as a children’s or youth pastor, camp director, or adult educator, the MACF will help you develop the skills you need to walk with your congregation or community as they seek God’s will and presence in their lives.

Why North Park?

North Park Theological Seminary is committed to equipping women and men for congregational service in formation ministries, providing focused, topical coursework in concert with biblical and theological preparation. Uniquely situated as the only seminary of the Evangelical Covenant Church, North Park connects you to the resources of the denomination’s Department of Christian Formation as well as the community of seasoned pastors and leaders across a wide range of ministries. Not only will you learn from leading scholars and your classmates, you’ll participate in a supervised internship to help you discern your unique calling to ministries of Christian formation and leadership.

In-Person and Online Courses

The MACF can be completed in two years as full-time student on our campus in Chicago. Many students choose to extend the program an additional year or two and incorporate online, intensive, or intensive hybrid courses.

Course Areas

This 48-hour degree includes courses in the Bible, history, theology, spiritual formation, ministry, and Christian education and formation. You’ll also be able to select elective courses that fit your own educational goals and ministry context.

Vocational Development

From the moment you enter Seminary, you will be immersed in a community that places vocational development front and center alongside academic preparation. Identity and spiritual formation coursework, psychological and biblical testing, supervised practical experience, and specific attention paid to sustainable ministry habits are all crucial elements of your development as a minister.
