Tips

These monthly tips and suggestions can help you make the most of your first semester here at North Park University.

August

  • Attend Threshold. Check out the schedule of events that will help get you connected to what’s going on at North Park.
  • Consider taking a challenge/placement exam offered during Threshold.
  • Review your transfer course information and how it relates to your program requirements in Student Planning in Self Service.
  • Contact Student Engagement with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your academic plan via email or at (773) 244-5737.
  • Set up your network account and check your North Park email, which will be the primary mode of communication by the University. You are responsible for the information sent to this email account.
  • Complete the Helwig release form. This will grant you access to the Helwig Recreation Center.
  • Purchase a parking pass from Office of Campus Security and Safety for access to campus parking lots.
  • Contact studentaccounts@northpark.edu if you have questions about your payment plan

September

  • Cheer on the Vikings soccer, football, and volleyball teams.
  • Join an Intramural Sports team.
  • Email your faculty advisor to introduce yourself and set up a meeting. Your faculty advisor can help you create your academic timeline, identify what classes you have left to take and when you plan on completing them.
  • Ask for help if you need it. Visit with the Student Success team, on the first floor of the Johnson Center in Student Engagement.
  • Find a tutor or seek out other academic support services.
  • Become familiar with myNPU, the online student hub for announcements and access to Canvas, our online learning management system.
  • Add courses to your academic plan via Student Planning in Self Service so that you can review it with your faculty advisor in order to prepare for registration next month.

October

  • Prepare for Quad-A final exams.
  • Seek advice from your faculty advisor and other professors on your major choice.
  • Register for classes through Student Planning in Self Service.
  • Check your North Park email; this is where the University will send important registration details and official email.
  • Explore job and internship options in the Career Development Office.
  • Volunteer in the neighborhood or wider community; find opportunities on your own or partner with University Ministries.
  • If your account is on hold per no longer being on a payment plan, make any necessary financial arrangements with studentaccounts@northpark.edu.

November

  • Join an academic or social club.
  • Take advantage of academic support services to gear up for final exams.
  • Think about restructuring your schedule to allow for study time needed for finals.
  • Register for classes if you have not already done so. Contact Student Engagement if you need assistance via email or (773) 244-5737.
  • Attend the annual campus Friendsgiving Dinner in our Dining Hall.

December

  • Attend Cram Jam to celebrate the end of the semester. At Cram Jam you can win awesome prizes.
  • Celebrate with your graduating friends at commencement.
  • Don’t leave campus without registering for classes. Contact Student Engagement if you need assistance via email or (773) 244-5737.

January

  • Add courses to your academic plan via Student Planning in Self Service so that you can review it with your faculty advisor in order to prepare for registration next month.

March

April
